The Tenth Party Representative Assembly of Chengdu City has put forward a target of “strenuously constructing Chengdu into a center modern megalopolis with best business environment, best human habitat environment and strongest overall strength in West China”.

Up to 2007, per capita GDP of the entire city shall exceed 3,000 dollars, annual average disposable income of town residents shall reach 13,000 RMB, and annual average net income of peasants shall reach 5,000 RMB, meanwhile, the urbanization level shall exceed 42 per cent, which shall make a solid basis for all-round construction of well-off society.

This year, in accordance with the demand of scientific development ideas and various determined work deployment, we are trying to carry forward new type industrialization, to speed up integration of urban and rural areas, to force agriculture modernization, and to speed up the development of Chengdu’s service industry by making a breakthrough on tourism and exhibition industry.

We are also trying to improve the opening level with the emphasis on attracting the strong and large-scale enterprises, to urgently consummate an employment and social security system, to zealously develop science, technology, education and culture enterprises, to create one of the first batch of civilized cities in the country, to assure peoples’ standard of living constantly improving, to assure social enterprise advancing in every aspect and to assure national economy developing fast and healthily.
